Duplo has hailed the success of this year’s edition of its ‘Northern Lights’ event, after the firm and its various partners were able to generate and attract plenty of interest in finishing solutions

Stockport-based SF Taylor was one of several companies that purchased kit at the event, opting for an iSaddle

Staged at the Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds from March 8th to 9th, the event focused on showcasing not just some of the latest kit on offer from Duplo, but also solutions and advice from its partners.

The likes of Antalis, Friedheim, Infigo Software, and Renz were all in attendance at the event, and proved to be popular with the local community as many companies from the surrounding area having visited to learn more about Duplo.

“Northern Lights is a partner event and it’s really about showcasing efficiencies, automation, and precision systems for our customers, and delivering what they tell us they need,” Joanne Lancaster, UK customer experience manager at Duplo, told Print Monthly at the event.

“We’ve always included partners in the event as we want to showcase the whole solution, and we’ve got some really great relationships with partners.

“Our customer forum before the show indicated that people wanted to see wider finishing applications and industrial finishing, and the partnerships have added real value to the event; I think all partners have gained real value from the show.

“As well as it being a direct customer show, our dealers benefit also as they can bring their own customers along to see our small office range of products.

“We also ran a particularly successful ‘clinic’ style area for operators, where actual users of our 5000 booklet system and our technical staff were able to help customers achieve best practice in running their finishing kit.”

Amongst the plethora of Duplo technology on show at Northern Lights this year was the 600 PRO Digital Booklet System, complete with a new configuration, as well as the flagship DC-746 multifinisher.

Duplo signed orders worth £350,000 for new kit at the event, including a deal with first-time customer RouteOne Print, which purchased a DC-746.

Stockport-based SF Taylor opted for an iSaddle, while KJB Print followed up in its recent purchase in a Ricoh C9100 at The Print Show by also investing in an iSaddle.

Interest was boosted further with a special ‘Time for Tea’ campaign that ran for the duration of the event and encouraged local businesses to come along and see what Duplo and its partners had on offer.

“We started our ‘Time for Tea’ campaign a few of weeks ago by doing invitation drops, showing that with Duplo kit, you can get some time back,” Lancaster says.

She adds: “We’ve been able to continue that campaign at the event by having a number of customers, which wouldn’t normally have come to see us, actually drop in to the event.”

Amongst the portfolio of Duplo partners in attendance at Northern Lights was the popular PrintIT! initiative, which was attempting to capture more interest in the scheme.

Speaking about Northern Lights, Hettie Foreman from PrintIT! praised Duplo for the quality of visitors it had been able to attract to the Royal Armouries, saying that the event had helped raise further awareness of the scheme.

Northern Lights has been really successful and has exceeded our expectations; it gave us another perfect opportunity to speak to lots of customers and prospects, and we also had a few signings at the show, which is always fantastic

Speaking to Print Monthly, Foreman says: “It’s been really good for us to come here, meet more people and let them know more about how the PrintIT! scheme, and what it can do for them as a business.”

Despite this year’s event having just ended, Duplo is already looking ahead to its next gathering, with its popular London Calling set to take place later this year, while Northern Lights is almost certain to return in 2017.

Lancaster adds: “Northern Lights has been really successful and has exceeded our expectations; it gave us another perfect opportunity to speak to lots of customers and prospects, and we also had a few signings at the show, which is always fantastic.”
