At a conference at its headquarters in Mortsel, Belgium, AGFA Graphics has revealed the latest addition to its chemistry-free printing plates range—Azura TU

AGFA claims the Azura TU can reduce water consumption by up to 95 percent, compared to conventional processing systems

Designed for high-volume printing, Azura TU is an extension of ThermoFuse product family, which AGFA claims simplifies platemaking and provides a more environmentally-friendly solution. Indeed, when combined with the Azura CX clean-out unit, the firm claims water consumption can be reduced by more than 95 percent in comparison to conventional processing systems.

Speaking to Print Monthly Ralph Hilsdon, global director of marketing, pre-press, at AGFA Graphics commented: “TU extends the Azura technology to cover the whole of the commercial sheetfed market. Azura TU, compared to the TS version, increases the run length, which is important in itself, but it also improves the plates performance when we are faced with rougher substrates or poorer quality inks, which are becoming common in the industry with people trying to save on costs.

There’s no compromise. In terms of characteristics on the press, it’s exactly the same as using a conventionally-processed plate, but with the sustainable and ease-of-use advantages

“There’s no compromise. In terms of characteristics on the press, it’s exactly the same as using a conventionally-processed plate, but with the sustainable and ease-of-use advantages,” he concludes.

The new product launch is part of a wider research and development strategy from the company, which has seen it capture market share and expand in a time when some of its closest historical rivals are experiencing challenging trading conditions.

Hilsdon continues, giving his viewpoint on the reasons behind AGFA’s positive market performance: “One of the key things it that we were the first company to really adopt a whole system approach. Rather than just selling a CtP engine or plate, we’ve always taken the full system into consideration, and offer a very comprehensive support package.

“It is this complete approach that a lot of customers appreciate, and is why we have great customer loyalty,” he concludes.
