Excitement is building ahead of The Print Show this autumn with the news that the Horizon SmartSlitter will receive its UK launch at the NEC, boasting a host of pioneering features that will increase operational efficiency and productivity for printers.

The Horizon SmartSlitter is suited to the production of coupons, direct mail pieces, and business cards

The all-in-one smart sheet processing system can slit, gutter cut, edge trim, cross-cut, perforate, and crease in one pass. It will be of interest to those in the print finishing industry as the automated system includes several features for a smoother operation and flexibility in production, including a colour touch screen. The flexibility means it has been designed for both offset and digital output, and can be enhanced with JDF workflow from upstream to post-press using the Horizon pXnet Bindery Control System.

The Horizon SmartSlitter accepts sheets up to 370 x 670mm and can deliver finished sheets down to 50 x 50mm.

A statement from the firm says: “Perforation, creasing, and slitting can be performed in both horizontal and vertical directions in the same pass. For accordion fold applications or perfect bound books, up and down creasing can also be performed in one pass while skip perforation is available for producing T-perfs and L-perfs with the SMSL-PR optional perforation cassette.

Like all Horizon products, the SmartSlitter is suitable for both offset and digital printed short-run applications that require ultra-quick turnaround times without compromising quality

“The Horizon Smart Slitter is ideally suited to the production of coupons with multiple perforations, direct mail pieces, business cards, card decks, and photo books for perfect binding. It can also deliver multiple up greeting cards with or without creasing, table tents, invitations, and much more with both matrix and rotary creasing.

“For applications such as accordion folded pieces or perfect bound book covers, up and down creasing can also be performed in one pass. Standard size business cards can be printed 21-up on a sheet and processed to a receding stacker for easy handling."

IFS’ managing director, Bryan Godwyn, comments: “Like all Horizon products, the SmartSlitter is suitable for both offset and digital printed short-run applications that require ultra-quick turnaround times without compromising quality or integrity. The small-footprinted, easy-to-integrate solution can expand job flexibility and add services that enable print operations to immediately generate revenue. It will help printers stand out from the competition and create higher margins and ultimately more profitable work.”

Godwyn says optional extras include a rotary creasing cassette SMSL-CR for creasing in the direction of paper feeding, an impact perforation unit PF-36 for perforation lines in the width direction, an impact creasing unit delivering different widths of creasing lines, and a stacker SMSL-ST delivery device for receiving small products such as business cards.

The Print Show runs from October 11th to 13th and will also be showcasing the BQ-470 EVA four-clamp perfect binder, the HT-30c three-side trimmer, the CRF-362 creaser folder, the StitchLiner 5500 bookletmaker with VAC AC 1000 collator, and B2 AFC-566FG folder.
