Will Lovegrove has taken over the running of the family business from his father, and is driving the push for digital

The Heidelberg model is expected to aid the expansion of the company’s digital services. The new printer has continuous automatic calibration, a capability of 4800 x 2400dpi and incorporates features from Heidelberg’s litho technology, including sidelays and colour control.

Crawley-based Treetop anticipates an 80 to 20% turnover split between litho and digital respectively by the end of next year.

Will Lovegrove, co-owner of Treetop says: “This new press features the larger sheet size and can handle up to 470gsm and gives us the flexibility we need to expand the digital side. Up until now we have not pushed digital but, moving forward, we will.”

The family business, set up by Graham Lovegrove 34 years ago and now run by his son Will, is no stranger to innovation. It was an early adopter of the latest generation Speedmaster SM 74 press.

Treetop has been a loyal user of Heidelberg since it opened, starting in digital with a Linoprint C751. Today the firm is Heidelberg through and through, with computer-to-plate (CtP), cutting, folding and stitching kit as well as litho and digital presses.

Speaking of his decision to stay with Heidelberg, Lovegrove says: “We did look at other options and print tested the three that were short-listed, but Heidelberg gives us reassurance because with both litho and digital presses we need really good service and support and Heidelberg has treated us very well over the years.”
