The Yorkshire firm has upgraded its existing Uchida finishing machine to an Uchida AeroCut One multi-purpose finishing unit, due to the addition of a barcode reader.
Having operated on its previous Uchida machine for seven years, John Brailsford, owner of the company, explains that the firm didn’t appreciate the difference it would make until it had the machine installed for a trial period.
“Our Xerox print unit adds a barcode to the regular job imposition before printing, and this contains all of the job information. The AeroCut One picks up on the barcode and sets itself up for slitting, cutting and creasing as is required for the job,” says Brailsford.
The Uchida AeroCut One shows how automation can take a job swiftly through post-press production with the minimum of operator intervention”
Purchased directly from digital finishing supplier Morgana Systems, the firm also invested in a Canny Bander machine – following on from the purchase of a Pro 450 laminating system installed in November 2018.
The Canny Bander enables the firm to band business cards and postcards prior to packaging.
Ray Hillhouse, vice-president of offline business at Morgana says: “The Uchida AeroCut One shows how automation can take a job swiftly through post-press production with the minimum of operator intervention.
“John Brailsford Printers illustrate perfectly how print companies can be set up to get the maximum production from staff and equipment to create a successful and profitable business.”
