Two Sides conducts its trends survey every two years in order to explore consumer preferences
Not-for-profit initiative, Two Sides UK, has drawn attention to new statistics showing consumers' preferences towards sustainable packaging and materials.
Two Sides UK which promotes print, paper, and paper packaging, is part of a collaboration of companies from across the forestry, pulp, and manufacturing industries which look to dispel myths surrounding the green credentials around paper and print.
The Trend Tracker Survey 2023 is the latest consumer research undertaken by Two Sides Europe to look at environmental awareness, reading habits, packaging preferences, and attitudes towards tissue products.
The survey was a global study of 10,250 consumers and conducted online by independent research company, Toluna.
Research found that consumers are demanding that retailers do more to ensure packaging is widely recyclable, with 49% of respondents believing that paper-based packaging is easier to recycle than other materials.
Less than half of respondents (46%) believe that retailers are doing enough to inform consumers of their commitments to sustainability with 55% saying they would buy more from retailers who remove plastic from their packaging.
As consumers become more aware of the environmental impact of packaging, more people are expecting governments to take action with 39% of those surveyed believing governments and local authorities are most responsible for reducing the use of non-recyclable plastic.
Recently the Confederation of Paper Industries (CPI) joined Two Sides as a formal member in order to better collaborate and tell the story of paper products.
Andy Barneston, executive director of competitiveness of the CPI, says: “We have worked with Two Sides for many years supporting their mission, objectives, and achievements. CPI is pleased to take this further, formally supporting the campaign by becoming a member and working more collaboratively.
“This will help us communicate more widely the sustainability of our industry to our members and in turn, their customers.”
More and more companies are joining Two Sides in order to better educate the industry and bolster service offerings.
Other organisations which have recently joined Two Sides are Greener Mail, The Sheet Plant Association, Chapelton Board, and Elanders UK.
Elanders UK, which is part of The Elanders Group, offers customers a full print, packaging, and delivery solution, making Two Sides an extremely relevant initiative to the company.
