Bulldog Display has purchased a Gibson GT-H3200R6 UV Hybrid Printer through equipment seller Repro Sales & Repairs (RSR).

A relatively new brand to the UK, Gibson is sold alongside flatbed and hybrid machines recently made available in the western market including Xenons, Focus, and iEcho.

Gibson produces a range of flatbed and hybrid LED-UV printers designed to meet the demands of businesses like Bulldog, which produces a range of graphic installations for exhibitions, product launches, and retail takeovers.

Recent examples of Bulldog’s work include a 6m-high advent calendar shaped like a rocket as well as a giant replica drink can.

In order to meet its output and demand the company has purchased the new Gibson with a combined 3.2m flatbed and roll feeding capacity, which it says has saved the business money compared to purchasing a more expensive machine.

Print finisher at Bulldog, Tyler Hill, says: “This is a machine which will do pretty much everything for us. Typically, this means adhesive rolls such as greyback or high tack, plus all kinds of boards up to around 80mm thick, with the option of running acrylics, glass, even wood.”

A big change for the company has also been the introduction of UV inks, differentiating from the solvent inks used by its previous Refretonic 3.2m Eco Solvent Printer.

Tyler says: “Previously we would print and then laminate, but now we have cut the lamination stage out altogether which saves a great deal of time and expense. It’s not just reduced print and drying time, there’s a better-quality matte finish to our work, plus it’s more durable and scratch resistant.”

Bulldog has said the machine is proof that businesses don’t have to pay “silly money” for UV hybrid printers as the Bulldog still uses the latest generation Ricoh Gen6 Print Heads.

The company, which is in its 30th year of trading, has recently recovered after a downturn in business during the pandemic with a sleugh of new orders thanks to the surge of new retail and event projects.
