The family-owned company was founded this year by Tracey Shanks and her partner Scott Macpherson and Shanks’ experience fitting graphics to buses won the company its first job in March by Lothian Buses.

Graphics needed to be focused around the new ‘Cobbles’ Tour’ which gives tourists the chance to see Edinburgh’s sights from an open top bus. With the tour designed for families, the designs needed to incorporate a colourful and friendly design complete with ‘Cobbles’ the Scotty dog mascot.

Working closely with Lothian’s in-house graphic design team, Gordana Graphics used its new HP Latex 700 printer to produce interior and exterior vinyl for the Edinburgh Bus Tour sightseeing buses.

The machine was purchased by HP reseller Perfect Colours and was installed in March to support the business with its launch.

Through using the printer, Gordana was able to easily produce between 60m and 70m of graphics for the exterior wrap.

Describing her experience using the HP Latex 700 for the company’s debut, Shanks who serves as director of operations at Gordana Graphics, says: “The print quality of the HP Latex 700 is beautifl; there was a lot of yellow on the Cobbles buses but there was zero banding.

“It was a lovely solid print that was set at an eight-pass, so we were really pleased with the final results. I’ve worked with HP Latex printers for a number of years now and I always find them easy to work with as they are so user-friendly. From changing ink cartridges or printheads to loading material, HP always has the end-user in mind.”

The printer’s environmental credentials are another reason the company is a satisfied user. Shanks explains that more businesses are looking for a more eco-friendly approach, especially in the public transport bus sector where more and more companies are looking at investing in electric or hydrogen buses.

Being able to offer water-based inks and PVC-free films allows Gordana Graphics to respond to these demands.
