Founded in 1890 by Joseph Bobst, the equipment, label, and packaging company has a presence in over 50 countries, with 19 production facilities, and over 5800 employees.

At a recent conference in Lausanne, Switzerland, BOBST discussed the future of packaging and covered topics such as sustainability, innovation, and technology.

In 2020, BOBST unveiled four key pillars for the company to focus on, which are connectivity, digitalization, automation, and sustainability. BOBST says these pillars have now become more relevant than ever and are turning into cornerstones of the ongoing strategy for BOBST and the wider packaging industry.

BOBST has now released a number of solutions to progress and improve on the challenges faced by print and packaging companies.

BOBST Connect is a newly updated digital solution that helps customers optimise packaging and production workflow.

While these trends have undoubtedly been accelerated, BOBST has implemented a strategy and built a portfolio of solutions and services that enables converters and brand owners to thrive even in this new packaging world.

The company has also released a variety of new ways to support and connect to its customers via BOBST HelplineEssential, and a new logistics hub for the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region.

In regards to automation and productivity BOBST has released new solutions to the corrugated board and folding carton sectors, including the new EXPERTLINE and SPEEDSET series.

Chief executive officer for Bobst Group, Jean-Pascal Bobst, says: “While it was impossible to predict world events of recent years like the pandemic, global conflicts, and subsequent consequences for our industry such as shortages of materials and manpower, we did correctly identify the overall packaging industry trends.”

Bobst adds: “While these trends have undoubtedly been accelerated, BOBST has implemented a strategy and built a portfolio of solutions and services that enables converters and brand owners to thrive even in this new packaging world.”

BOBST also offered new responsible and sustainable options through its CEFLEX, oneBARRIER, R-Cycle, and FibreCycle offerings. The solutions mean offering new recyclable options including a new recycled polypropylene (rPP) pouch, the first surface print pouch with barrier, produced using rPP household collected recycled material.

Additionally, the business announced new enhancements in the world of labels and automation, including more traceability though Digital Product Passports (DPP) and the new ACCUCHECK RECIPE EDITOR for folder-gluers producing packaging artwork.

Speaking about the new innovations, Bobst concludes: “While there is no question that the challenges, we face in today’s packaging environment are greater and more varied than ever, at BOBST we know we have the portfolio, services, and partnerships in place to help converters and brand owners navigate successfully through them. Together, we can embrace a better future with confidence.”
