BCF launches online history archive

The National Federation of Associated Paint, Colour and Varnish Manufacturers first met 110 years ago.

To celebrate, the British Coatings Federation has created an online history archive.

The online resource features archives of the various associations that make up BCF’s history including annual reports, minute books, and photographs from paints, coatings, and printing ink associations dating back to 1911.

Whilst the physical collection is being held at the BCF office and is available to view in person, the archives are also available to view via ‘e-Hive’ which is a web-based collection cataloguing system.

We welcome historians or anyone with an interest in the industry’s history to make an appointment to visit the BCF’s offices in Coventry

To celebrate the launch of the historic archive, BCF gathered all its previous Presidents with the party being given a tour of the Federation’s office in Coventry and a first-look at the documents and records.

Tom Bowtell, chief executive of BCF, says: “It’s fantastic we can make our comprehensive archive of the paints and printing ink association history available to the public for the first time. We welcome historians or anyone with an interest in the industry’s history to make an appointment to visit the BCF’s offices in Coventry.”

Those wishing to view the physical collection can contact info@bcf.co.uk to book, or the online archive can be accessed here: https://www.coatings.org.uk/history.aspx.
