Solopress details £3.3m production investment

Southend-based Solopress has announced details of a £3.3m investment project, which included the purchase and installation of a first-of-its-kind machine from HP.

The HP PageWide Web Press T250 HD is the first press of its kind in the world to be operating in a commercial environment.

Solopress has also coupled the new HP press with a Hunkeler roll-to-cut/stack machine, which it says vastly increases operational efficiency, converting from reels to cut sheet finished jobs at speeds upwards of 180m/p/m.

A second T250 machine is also on order with installation planned for early next year, as Solopress seeks to further build on its manufacturing capabilities.

In addition, Solopress has invested in two new HP Indigo 7800 machines, which join a pair of HP Indigo 10000s installed last year.

Solopress managing director Simon Cooper comments: “We started assessing the market for high speed continuous feed inkjet presses in October 2019, doing extensive due diligence to ensure that we made the right technology choice.

Onlineprinters Group, of which Solopress is a part, is partnering extensively with HP on its wider expansion plans. As well as two T250 machines at Solopress, Onlineprinters Germany will take delivery of two new T250s.

Scandinavian Print Group already has a T240 operational, taking the tally to five T Series machines within the group as a whole, which the firm says offers true Europe-wide coverage.

“Our partnership with HP allows us to access industry leading technologies like high-speed digital inkjet, Indigo and the Siteflow system all from the same source,” Cooper says.

“Our decision to forge ahead with inkjet makes us leaner and better equipped to head into the future.”
