Duplo's new Owners Club initiative was launched at the Northern Lights event in Manchester
Borne out of a need to cater for customers in the North who cannot afford to take time out of the office to go down to London, the event saw the launch of the print finishing specialist’s Owner’s Club, a new initiative created to improve communication with its customers that will update members on developments and allow them to share best practice and new ideas.
Sarah Crumpler, Duplo’s UK marketing manager, explains that while customers visiting the company’s London Calling events are focused on getting to grips with the latest technologies, client comments in the North suggested a desire to learn how to improve the way they work with their existing machinery.
“The key difference is our customers in London always want to see the latest innovations and what’s different, whereas the feedback we had from our customers in the North was, we want to know how to do what we already do better, we want to learn how to use our current machines better,” Crumpler revealed.
Visitors were also given the opportunity to attend a customer-only forum, allowing them to address any issues in an open discussion with other users of Duplo equipment. Adrian Tolley, operations director of Nottingham printing firm Prime Group, chaired the session, tasked with providing Duplo with feedback.

Another key feature of the event was the live demonstrations, from both partners of the event and customers who took the time to show fellow Duplo clients how to get the most out of their machinery. Crumpler highlighted the benefits of this type of hands-on session with an expert, adding: “If you own one of these machines you can come and talk to our specialists and find out how you could be using it better. If you have a tricky job, you might not want to ask a trainer to come out to you, you can come in here and gain some extra knowledge.”
Duplo worked with a number of partners that they have never worked with in a show environment before, such as colour management specialist GMG Colour. Other partners included web-to-print software provider Infigo, punching, binding, and laminating firm Renz, and the British Printing Industries Federation (BPIF).
“To even say that the inaugural Northern Lights was an unqualified success would be a huge understatement,” Crumpler said of the event, adding: “We are massively proud and it was everything and more that we envisaged. We will be having another show in the north next year.”
