Infigo completes 5000km to raise funds for Ukraine

Web-to-print company Infigo recently surpassed its fundraising target to raise money for Ukraine.

A total of 24 Infigo team members banded together to complete 5000km in one month to raise funds for Ukraine

The company took part in a group fitness challenge thought up by Infigo technical operations director Alex Bowell.

The challenge involved completing 2,500km (the distance from London to Kiev) by cycling, swimming, running, or walking however Bowell decided to complete the return journey too after quickly achieving the 2,500km goal halfway through.

Together, 24 Infigo team members managed to cover 5011km over a four-week period with 500km being completed in the last three days of the challenge.

Bowell describes the activity as “a great team effort” saying whilst the group got off to a strong start challenges such as Covid meant some team members had to rest more than they wanted to.

Despite it being a true team effort, it was the cyclists in the group who bagged the highest number of miles with Duncan Rouart, design and support analyst completing 1002km – including a week off due to Covid!

“While I cycle regularly, my weekly average has been a lot higher to help with the group target,” Rouart explains. “I tried to vary the route as much as possible so my rides didn’t get too repetitive.”

For Rouart, the last day of the challenge was the hardest and he wasn’t sure if the team was going to reach the 5000km target. With this in mind, he decided to cycle back from a family lunch adding an additional 65km to the 120km he’d already completed that day.

Duncan Rouart banked 1002km despite facing a week off due to Covid, two punctured tires, and the great British weather!

“Unfortunately it rained heavily, I got two punctures, and had to be collected at the roadside by my wife at 9pm,” he recalls, adding: “But it was so worth it.”

It’s this dedication to the cause and company-wide team attitude that Bowell says makes Infigo such a special company to be part of.

“It was an unbelievable performance from the team and we are grateful for the support we received from our partners, customers, and the print and SaaS world,” Bowell says, adding: “This challenge shows that in times of adversity or when we really need to produce, we come together to stand up and be counted.

“We know how fortunate we are to have the freedom to go our and have a cycle or a stroll wherever we want. Sadly, those in Ukraine don’t have that luxury. They are being forced to flee their homes and everything they hold dear amid heavy bombardment and gunfire.

“So, while we have embraced this challenge, we’ve never lost sign of the fact that it’s all about raising funds for this humanitarian crisis.”

At the time of writing, Infigo’s Ukraine Humanitarian Crisis JustGiving page has raised £2,709 with people still able to donate if they wish to do so here: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/infigo-ukraine.
