Bluetree Group continues growth into book printing

Bluetree Group, a large online printing business which operates through instantprint, Route 1 Print, and Kingsbury Press, has ordered a second Landa S10P Nanographic Printing press.

The acquisition has been made so that the B1 digital solution can help bolster the group’s operations in luxury and layflat book printing as well as stitched and perfect bound booklet products.

While much of its expanded work will come from Route1Print, the second Landa press will also serve Kingsbury Press, a business that specialises in luxury books and brochures, which acquired by Bluetree Group in 2021.

The investment has been made due to the rapidly growing book printing market which Bluetree Group has refocused on following the closure of its medical division which it set up during the pandemic to supply Type IIR medical masks.

James Kinsella, co-chief executive officer of the Bluetree, says: “The print market is highly competitive and to support the print resellers we serve through Route1Print we need to invest to ensure that we can produce at the highest quality and lowest unit cost.

“The area that the Landa is making the biggest impact is in booklet work, perfect bound books for example are printed as blocks and then run through our Kolbus KM600. The Landa has enabled much faster turnarounds as well as opening a wider range of materials that traditionally were only available on litho quantities.”

The purchase is part of a broader £5m investment in the company’s booking printing division as books and booklets have become some of the fastest growing segments of the business.

Speaking about its first Landa S10P, Kinsella adds: “The Landa has enabled Kingsbury to expand its offering and has given a lot more flexibility particularly with shorter run lengths. The new press will take this to the next level with the capability that seven colours offers and what this can bring to the stunning photography that features in these projects.”

Sharon Cohen, chief business officer for Landa Digital Printing, concludes: "Bluetree Group is an exceptional business with a forward-thinking approach to performance, innovation, and customer service.

“Following its evident success with the first press, we’re thrilled to continue our partnership and support their growth strategy and future aspirations."
