Abbey Labels installed a Xeikon LX3000 toner label press at its Bury St Edmunds production facility, the first company to do so in the UK
Suffolk-based label printing company, Abbey Labels, has installed a Xeikon LX3000 toner label press, the first in the UK to do so.
The Xeikon press was purchased by Abbey Labels during drupa 2024, with Abbey Labels chairman, Tom Allum, travelling to Germany to secure the purchase in person.
The new LX3000, also known as ‘The Lion’, has been added to Abbey Label’s arsenal of printing solutions at its production facility which includes two Xeikon CX300s.
The five-colour, dry toner Lion press offers a reported printing speed of up to 42m/min, 40% faster than previous models. It also features a new ‘Cruise Control’ inspection tool, which aims to automate the process of quality control.
The machine utilises Xeikon’s new ECO toner technology, which reduces the carbon footprint of the printing process by more than 10% in comparison to previous Xeikon toners.
The ECO toners are made with 60% recycled plastic materials, are free from per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), and are certified vegan.
The toners are also food-safe and free from potentially harmful substances such as Bisphenol-A (BPA), mineral oil, and photoinitiators.
Speaking of The Lion, Tom Allum, chairman at Abbey Labels, says: “As expected, the Lion has quickly settled into our label operation.
“This new beast gives us fantastic speed, excellent 1200dpi print quality and industry-leading sustainability in one high-productivity package.
“As the first full installation in the UK, the Lion is another great opportunity for Abbey Labels to bring more value for our customers. And not only does the impressive 40% speed increase provide more printing capacity, it also reduces the energy consumption per linear metre.”
Speaking of his desire to purchase a machine at drupa, Allum continues: “Ever since I first started visiting drupa as a teenager with my dad, I’ve dreamt of signing for a new press at the world’s largest print show.
“We’d only just agreed to invest in the LX3000 the day before the show opened, so we had to make quick arrangements for the trip to Düsseldorf. It was well worth it though, because it’s so much better to finalise these deals in person.”
