Gallus Group has announced a module for the Gallus One label press that produce digital labels inline with a matte finish, without the need for additional units

Gallus Group, a subsidiary of manufacturer HEIDELBERG, has announced the global commercial availability of a new finishing module for its Gallus One digital inkjet label press.
The Gallus MatteJet technology allows converters to produce digital labels inline with a matte finish, without the need for integrated flexo units or post-processing equipment. The technology can be retrofitted to existing Gallus One presses.
Initially unveiled at Labelexpo Americas 2024, Gallus announced the global availability of the module today (March 26th) at its Gallus Wine Label Day event in St. Gallen, Switzerland. According to a statement from Gallus, the development of MatteJet was accelerated due to “strong market demand”.
The technology is reported to reduce time, complexity, and cost by eliminating the need for additional units and varnishes to achieve a matte finish. It also removes the tooling and cleaning of coating machinery normally needed in the process.
Traditional digitally printed labels often have a gloss finish before post-processing, which Gallus points to as a key barrier to the wider adoption of digital label printing technology, particularly in the wine label segment. With the release of MatteJet, the company therefore hopes to boost digital adoption within the segment.
Dario Urbinati, chief executive officer of Gallus Group, says: "Three years ago, with the launch of the Gallus One, we addressed the TCO (total cost of ownership) barrier to profitable digital labels.
“With MatteJet we’ve taken this concept further, bringing all the advantages of digitally printed matte labels to premium brands including short runs, reduced inventory, enhanced sustainability, personalisation, and on-demand printing.”
Speaking of the wider strategy underpinning the technology, Urbinati adds: “Making the embrace of digital solutions an accessible and profitable path for more converters and further supporting the drive towards ‘smart, connected printing’, this innovation effectively completes the circle for premium digital labels.
“We believe MatteJet exemplifies the innovation, expertise, and customer focus that Gallus and HEIDELBERG bring to the industry. We look forward to seeing its impact on the market and the opportunities it facilitates for label businesses.”
