Tom O’Connor, former chief executive officer of IT firm, Version 1, is the new chairman of the board for Mail Metrics, replacing former chairman Martin Cullen

Irish communication solutions provider, Mail Metrics, has appointed Tom O’Connor, former chief executive officer of IT firm, Version 1, as its new chairman of the board.
Mail Metrics, which is headquartered in Dublin but with sites in the UK and Poland, helps organisations manage customer communications via a single platform which unifies digital and print operations.
O’Connor comes to his new role at Mail Metrics with over two decades of previous senior leadership experience in the technology sector. He held several roles at Version 1 from 2001, culminating in his appointment to chief executive officer in 2017 where he led the company through a sustained period of growth.
During O’Connor’s time leading Version 1 the company reportedly tripled revenue and profits, expanding internationally across the UK, Ireland, Spain, and India, as well as completing ten strategic acquisitions.
While he stepped down as chief executive officer in late 2024, O’Connor continues to serve on the Version 1 board of directors.
Nick Keegan, chief executive officer at Mail Metrics, says: “Tom O’Connor’s leadership experience and track record of delivering transformation at scale make him an exceptional asset to Mail Metrics.
“We are delighted to welcome him as chairman at a time when the business is making huge strides forward in assisting our clients transition to digital communications.”
Mail Metrics has also highlighted its deep appreciation to Martin Cullen, who served as chairman for the previous three years. Cullen will continue serving in a senior role for Microsoft, where he has worked for 16 years.
Keegan adds: “We also express our sincere gratitude to Martin Cullen for his outstanding contribution over the last three years. Martin was a great support to the board during our initial phase of growth and we wish him continued success in his leadership role in Microsoft.”
Speaking of his new role, O’Connor says: “I’m honoured to join Mail Metrics as chairman.
“The company’s ambition and drive, together with its focus on innovation in customer communication management, aligns strongly with my own passion for helping Irish firms achieve international scale through technology-driven transformation. I look forward to working closely with the leadership team and MML Capital Ireland to support the next stage of growth.”
In January 2025, MML Growth Capital Partners Ireland provided a substantial investment to support Mail Metrics' acquisition of UK-based communication management company, Adare SEC.
At the time of purchase, the acquisition was calculated to have quadrupled Mail Metrics’ employee count from 150 to 600 employees, bringing in a projected combined revenue of €210m (£175m).
The purchase was Mail Metrics’ fourth acquisition in four years, having previously acquired communications companies including Forth Communications and Dafil.
