Foilco has been purchased by Japanese hot stamping foils manufacturer, Washin, giving Foilco access to its portfolio of over 3,000 colours
Foilco, a UK specialist in hot stamping foils, has been acquired by Japanese manufacturer, Washin.
Established in 1987 in Greater Manchester, Foilco specialises in the marketing and supply of hot stamping foils for premium packaging, print, and product decoration.
Founded in 1924, Washin is a global manufacturer of hot stamping foil with a main focus on decoration in the plastics market, as well as specialising in technical coatings.
The deal gives Foilco access to Washin’s extensive portfolio of over 3,000 colours and 300 grade formulations.
Foilco directors, Matt and Paul Hornby, first met representatives from Washin in 2025. The company was reportedly impressed by Foilco's technical knowledge, ambition for growth, and its appreciation for what has been built since it was founded in 1987.
Speaking of the deal with Washin, Matt Hornby says: “The product range is an incredible resource and their philosophy aligns closely with our own – delivering bespoke colours and technically advanced grades that meet every application in our industry with optimum results.”
Shin Nakamichi, chief executive officer of Washin, adds: “We are delighted to welcome Foilco into the Washin group. Foilco have expertise in international marketing, distribution, and sales, while Washin have the expertise in manufacturing. A perfect combination.”
The deal was brokered with the collaboration of Kreston Global, an international association of accounting and advisory firms, with Kreston Reeves advising in the UK and Kreston ProWorks doing so in Japan.
The Kreston Reeves firms provided a multi-lingual service including buy-side corporate finance, financial, and tax due diligence support.
