Scotland-based print and packaging specialist, Gavin Watson, has launched a new on-demand digital packaging service, powered by the installation of a HP Indigo 35K digital press at its Blantyre facility near Glasgow.

Building on the capabilities of its existing HP Indigo press, the new kit investment was completed with the aim of allowing Gavin Watson to challenge established buying and production models in the short-run market.

Completed in July 2026, the installation of the HP Indigo 35K enables Gavin Watson to make both short and ultra-short-run packaging a commercially viable option for its clients, removing the need to commit to minimum order quantities to achieve a competitive unit price.

The installation responds to an accelerating demand for short-run carton packaging in the market, with faster product launches and compressed consumer and social-media-driven product cycles creating demand for shorter lead times and greater creative agility.

The Indigo 35K’s multi-variant print stacking, short setup times, and advanced digital workflow automation capabilities enable Gavin Watson to provide prototypes, multiple design versions, and personalised applications to clients, with more unique jobs able to be produced per shift.

Tom Brown, chief executive officer of Gavin Watson, says: “Growing brands shouldn’t have to compromise between exceptional packaging and ordering more than they need.

“By combining HP Indigo technology with our packaging expertise, we offer a more agile approach to short-run packaging, delivering premium quality, faster turnaround times, and the flexibility to produce personalised, on-demand packaging.”

Jack North, UK&I HP Indigo packaging sales, adds: “Packaging needs to move at the speed of the brands it represents. A product can launch, build an audience, and evolve in a matter of weeks, yet traditional packaging economics can still lock businesses into quantities and timelines that don’t reflect that reality.

“With the HP Indigo 35K, Gavin Watson is closing that gap – enabling brands to think smaller in quantity, faster in execution, and bigger in creativity. That is where digital print can fundamentally change the economics of packaging."
