The largest dedicated awards for young people in print is now open for 2023 applications

The Printing Charity has launched the 2023 version of its popular Rising Star Awards, an event that highlights young people in print and its associated industries.
The awards are open for people aged 18 to 30 from the print, packaging, paper, graphics, and publishing industries and gives winners up to £1,500 towards training and development.
The Printing Charity’s chief executive officer, Neil Lovell, says: “Helping young people grow and develop through access to training which will benefit them, their employers and, of course, the print industry as a whole is something The Printing Charity is absolutely committed to.
“Through speaking to employers in the industry we know that building a portfolio of personal skills such as problem solving, resilience, confidence, and effective communication is crucial to help young people develop their career ambitions, stand out, grow, and thrive.”
Previous winners have used award funding to develop skills in management training, negotiation, copywriting, pitching, and project management, as well as fund professional qualifications and Chartered Institute training.
Previous winner of the awards Tom Maskill, sales and marketing director at Websmart, comments: “I feel much more confident in my role after receiving my award. I used the grant to enrol on a PRINCE2 Practitioner course, and now, instead of relying solely on experience and intuition for developing processes and delivering projects, I have a bank of tools and frameworks I can use.
“I hope to be an industry leader, continuing to modernise the industry to be a more technology-driven and sustainable one.”
Applications are now open via the Printing Charity’s website until April 2nd, 2023, where applicants can also see case studies from previous applications, as well as information on the application process.
Lovell adds: “I’d encourage anyone thinking of applying to speak to their manager, mentor, or HR teams to discuss their career ambitions, and what they could apply for to help achieve these. I’d also encourage anyone working in print who knows potential Rising Stars, in their own organisation or within their wider network, to ensure they are aware of what the Awards scheme can offer."
