IPIA sets date for key networking event
More than 130 print professionals are expected to attend the IPIA Annual Networking Lunch on June 18th in Birmingham
The drupa song has been a staple part of the exhibition since 1986

Today, drupa visitors and exhibitors will be wrapping up a packed 11 days full of product releases, new sales, handshakes, bell ringing, daily exercises, presentations, and of course the daily motivation and send off that is the infamous drupa song.
This year’s theme titled “Let us Create the Future” will be well-known to this year’s exhibitors as the catchy tune opens and closes the exhibition each day.
Created by songwriter Julius Tratvetter (also known as NAKED CAT) and singers Gerald Oppong and Maria Nicolaides, the song was produced with Hallgrimson Entertainment Group (The HEG) and is meant to invoke the anticipation and excitement of the industry after eight years away from drupa.
In creating the song, drupa wanted to also reflect the sense of community, joy, creativity, colours, and themes of the future and innovations in the print industry.
Speaking about the song, drupa says: “NAKED CAT and The HEG aimed to create a modern, fresh sound that would, in combination with the lyrics, make attendees look forward to the coming trade fair, create a positive atmosphere and give off early summer vibes. Singers Gerald Oppong and Maria Nicolaides also lend the song their distinct voices.”
The song clearly has had an impact, as evident on the Vivid Laminating Technologies stand (Hall 6, Booth A21) where research and development specialist, Chris McCall, could be seen singing along and dancing to the catchy tune.
The first drupa song was released in 1986 and was performed and composed by Dave Gibson. The song was used until 1995. The exhibition has many memorable editions including “Get Ready to Succeed” performed by Messe Düsseldorf employee Dirk Zeisler from 2012 and “drupa is in Town Again” by Dieter Falk and Bonita Niessen from 2016.
This year’s edition can be seen and heard on YouTube:
Or it can also be heard at drupa on its final day which takes place today from 10.00am to 18.00pm at Messe Düsseldorf.
