Today (October 23rd) marks the tenth anniversary of International Print Day, a yearly celebration of print created by founder and owner of Print Media Centr, Deborah Corn.

As part of celebrations on Print Day, printing professionals worldwide have been encouraged to share inspiring stories about print across their social media channels by using the hashtag #IPD24.

According to figures from Print Media Centr, last year’s event generated more than 11 million impressions, with almost 200 million impressions for the International Print Day hashtags recorded to date.

Speaking of this year’s theme, Print Media Centr explains: “This year’s theme is #PrintLife. #PrintLife represents our lives in print – what we do, where we do it, who we do it for – and why print is a fun and rewarding career.”

The US-based Print Media Centr hosts a range of print-focused enterprises across its network, including Podcasts from The Printerverse, streaming site ProjectPeacock.TV, and industry initiative Girls Who Print.

Discussing the goals of Print Day, Corn says: “With workforce development being a universal problem in the industry, #IPD24 is the perfect opportunity to share the cool printed products we can create, how print media supports digital media as a powerful communications channel, and help transform the reputation of print from an antiquated to a modern technology.

“I chose #PrintLife as this year’s theme to focus on the advances in printing technology that make it a customisable canvas to decorate our homes and businesses, light up our favourite soda bottles with printed electronic labels, and create interactive experiences with digital bridges to online media.”

As of writing, a host of companies across the worldwide print sector have already posted on social media in support of the campaign.

UK commercial print and design services company, Clarkeprint, wrote on LinkedIn: “For us #PrintLife isn’t just a hashtag, it’s a celebration of our vibrant industry.

“From the creativity that flows in client meetings, the dedication forever present in our print shops, to the amazing people who make it all happen, it’s a reminder of why we love our craft.

“Whether it’s producing stunning visuals or creating cherished keepsakes, print has the power to connect us to life’s most important moments!”

Netherlands-based Printfactory also celebrated the day, saying: “Our #PrintLife revolves around you, our incredible customers, partners, and resellers.

“You're the reason we come to work every day with passion and purpose, focused on making your print operations smoother and your lives easier. Thank you for trusting us to help bring your bold ideas to life.”

And Canon Australia also participated, shouting out the company's history with a post that included photos of vintage Canon products.

In its post, Canon Australia said: “Today we're celebrating the print industry and the impact it has had on businesses through transformation and workplace efficiency, as well as the impact it has had on our personal storytelling and being able to relive special moments in time.

“We're proud to have been innovating since the early days with our products like the NP-5000 in the 1970s, and Telefax B-601 in the 1980s.”
