Canon UK & Ireland has been ranked 42 in the 2022/23 list of Top 50 UK Employers by inclusivity organisation Inclusive Companies.

The list released at the end of 2022 highlights chosen companies that best demonstrate and embrace inclusivity in the workplace. The league table ranks companies based on their dedication to all strands of diversity including age, disability, gender, sexuality, race, faith, and religion.

Canon says the list has become the definitive cross-industry index as it harnesses both the best practices and innovations in the workplace. The ranking is in its seventh year of operation and has the overall goal of driving inclusion for all.

Founder and chief executive officer of Inclusive Companies, Paul Sesay, states: “The independent advisory panel of Diversity & Inclusion experts review and analyse each and every submission. They look at all areas of diversity, including age, culture, disability, ethnicity, gender, LGBTQ+ and religion.

“Those organisations who have participated submit a great wealth of evidence regarding their inclusive practices, covering a wide range of areas and topics, and it is from this that the experts determine the Top 50 Inclusive employers.”

Canon was one of many new companies added to the list along with Allianz, Novuna, NielsenIQ, and Rolls-Royce.

Debbie Brown, HR director at Canon UK & Ireland, says: “At Canon we prioritise inclusivity and diversity, striving to achieve our philosophy of Kyosei, ‘living and working together for the common good’. We would like to thank all our employees, including the BAME Steering Group and Inclusion Network Leads, for their dedication to our people vision to be a diverse organisation that not only reflects our customers’ diversity but ensures we’re an inclusive place to work.”

Although the list has seen an influx of new additions, Sesay notes he would love to see more submissions from FTSE100 businesses, private sector organisations, and educational establishments. “They are in there, but wouldn’t it be great if they were pushing that balance back to a more equitable one with regards to the public sector?”

Sesay adds: “The next goal of Inclusive Companies is to drive the embedding of diversity and inclusion in people’s day-to-day lives and their communities through their changed and improved work practices.”
