Thortful has predicted the Royal Mail strikes will cost the business in the region of £1m

Online creative card marketplace, thortful has thousands of card designs available to be purchased online as well as options for personalisation and extra gifts.

However, despite the festive period traditionally being a lucrative time for the gifting sectors, with greetings cards booming in particular, the recent Royal Mail strikes have hit the company hard.

In a statement sent to Print Monthly from thortful managing director Pip Haywood, the company has estimated it is losing between £30,000 to £50,000 each day a strike is held.

Ahead of planned strikes, thortful has needed to advise customers of the extended delivery windows with Haywood describing seeing customer inquiries triple during these times.

Due to this, the company’s Christmas trading has been significantly hit with the managing director saying the company has had to increase staff to protect its customers.

“It’s not just hitting revenue, it’s adding cost and also causing brand damage,” Haywood says, adding: “We’re estimating the strikes will cost thortful in the region of £1m.”

At the time of writing, the next Royal Mail strikes planned are for Friday December 23rd and Saturday December 24th, 2022.

Local news outlets in Bristol have shared images of parcels and letters piling up outside sorting offices in the city as a result of previous strikes over the past few months.
