Earlier this month, the British Printing Industries Federation (BPIF) hosted its annual Graduation & Awards Ceremony, bringing together apprentices, employers, and industry leaders to celebrate achievements across the print and packaging sectors.

BPIF Training, a subsidiary of the wider association focused on apprenticeships and training programmes, is reportedly the UK's largest provider of print industry apprenticeships.

The event recognised graduates from the Level 5 Operations/Departmental Manager and Level 7 Senior Leader apprenticeship programmes, with the aim of highlighting the growing depth of leadership talent within the industry.

Opening the ceremony, Karly Lattimore, managing director of BPIF Training, highlighted the role apprenticeships play during periods of industry change, saying: "Apprenticeships aren't just about training, they're about building capability, resilience, and opportunity.

"Our apprentices bring new ideas, energy, and innovation into workplaces. That makes them invaluable, especially in challenging times."

Lattimore praised the dedication of graduating learners who have balanced leadership responsibilities, family commitments, and workplace pressures whilst completing programmes of study.

Several graduates from the BPIF programmes have reportedly taken on promotions or expanded responsibilities during their apprenticeships.

In her address, Lattimore also recognised the BPIF Training team, adding: "Our tutors, assessors, quality, engagement, and compliance teams are the backbone of everything we do.

“Their dedication and care make all the difference, and today's success belongs to them as much as it does to our learners."

Award winners for 2025 included Kristian Plumb, print technician at Graphic Packaging International, who received the One to Watch prize, and Jessica Butler, print technician at Colin Cross Printers, who won the Personal Achievement award.

Awards celebrating mentors and tutors were also awarded, with Neil Young of Pure Print Group winning the Apprentice Mentor award, and BPIF Training mentor, Jill Fiata, clinching the Apprenticeship Tutor award.

An additional Outstanding Employer prize was also presented during the event, which was won by Bakers Labels.

The full list of award winners for the 2025 BPIF Graduation & Awards Ceremony is available on the BPIF website.

Closing the ceremony, Charles Jarrold, chief executive officer of BPIF, said: "By investing in your people, you're developing your own organisations, and you're strengthening the entire print and packaging community.

“Take what you've learned, be proud of what you've achieved, and keep challenging yourselves. You've shown what's possible and we are incredibly proud of each and every one of you."
