The Printing Charity works every year to reward and help fund training for young people across the print, packaging, publishing, and graphic sectors.

This year, the awards were handed out at an event held by the charity’s president emeritus, Lord Black of Brentwood, at the House of Lords in London.

The Printing Charity says it is investing over £106,000 in this year’s winners, which translates to funding 148 courses.

This year saw a 28% increase in winners compared to last year, which an overall total of 78. Prizes were awarded in areas including core skills, professional careers, personal skills development, and leadership and management.

Winners came from organisations including Tradeprint, the Society of Young Publishers, Reach, Konica Minolta, the British Printing Industries Federation (BPIF), Greens the Signmakers, Baker Labels, Stylographics, Canon UK & Ireland, Citipost Mail, Bloomsbury, and Printvision.

Jaidan Patel, a 19-year-old winner from Printvision, a supplier of exhibition and display solutions, has been working his way through production and machine operation to become a successful account manager.

Speaking about his award at the event, Patel said: “I’m really thrilled to have been presented with this award; I love working in the print industry and have learned a lot already.

“This award allows me to develop my knowledge even more. It’s been a great experience and I would encourage anyone in the print industry to apply next year. The application and interview processes were challenging but very enjoyable and I’m looking forward to meeting the other winners very soon.”

The awards demonstrated the variety of disciplines and skills represented in the industry, evident in the awards given to Daniel McKie, a pressroom operator, and Jacob McGregor, electrical engineer, both from publisher and newspaper producer, Reach.

Graham Poulett, managing director for Reach Printing Services, said: “I'm delighted that Daniel and Jacob have been recognised by the Printing Charity as Rising Stars for 2025.

“These awards highlight Daniel and Jacob’s exceptional performance, hard work, and potential. They are importantly also a reflection of the great support provided by their individual teams and managers. Many congratulations to all!”

In his welcome speech, Lord Black also acknowledged the high percentage of women winning awards as a sign of the changing balance of men and women in the industry.

Celebrating winners Charlotte Carter and Olivia McLaughlin, both from Baker Labels, Clare Coles, HR manager and a judge for the awards this year, said on LinkedIn: “There was a real sense of energy in the room, and it's encouraging to see such enthusiasm from the next generation. Events like this are an important reminder of the value in recognising and supporting emerging talent in our sector.”

Chief executive officer of the Printing Charity, Neil Lovell, commented: “As is the case every year, we are celebrating the achievements and future potential of the sector’s outstanding younger talent.

“What’s really encouraging this year is the increase in the range of courses we’re funding. These courses will drive our winners forward in their chosen careers, underlining how the industry is arguably unmatched as a place for young people to build a fulfilling career in almost any discipline.”

Speaking about what the awards highlight for the printing industry, Lovell continued: “It also highlights the evolution of what it means to work in print. “This evolution will be driven by this year’s winners, by those who have won the Rising Stars before them, and by those who will win an award after them. It’s fair to say, with talent like this within print and the allied trades, the future is bright.”
