HEIDELBERG and Metsä Board unite with new strategic collaboration
As part of a new collaboration, HEIDELBERG and Metsä Board will join forces to develop a range of new packaging innovations
Creatively printed designs from students at Arts University Bournemouth were judged by representatives of LUSH Cosmetics, with the winners given creative internships at the brand

First year students from Arts University Bournemouth’s (AUB) BA Graphic Design degree have been awarded creative and design internships with LUSH, as part of the return of an annual packaging design competition.
The event, which took place in March on the AUB campus, saw students working directly with the Concepts and Collaborations team of the global cosmetics retailer, which develops new ideas and finds new audiences for the LUSH brand.
The students were tasked with creating a custom design for a LUSH ‘wellbeing toolkit’, with students producing a creatively printed and packaged final product in just eight weeks.
The kit needed to include three LUSH products along with a deck of 50 cards, three greaseproof sheets, a poster zine, and the box itself, all designed by the students.
Marten Sims, senior lecturer for Graphic Design at AUB, says: “The results were playful, sensory, and designed to help people feel good in their own skin. They all produced phenomenal work, hitting the brief perfectly.”
According to Sims, LUSH creative lead Josh Constantine described some of the work as “so good, we could have this in stores next week with no changes.”
Sims adds: “This is incredible feedback for first year students, just six months into their degree and already creating industry-standard work.”
The competition was originally supposed to have a shortlist of ten, from which a top three was decided. However, the LUSH team struggled to narrow down their favourites, so 12 winners were eventually chosen overall, with a top five chosen thanks to two joint wins.
Students Joe Page and Daisy Heywood were chosen as joint winners and have both won an internship at LUSH. During the internship, the students will work directly with the LUSH Concepts and Collaborations team in creative roles.
Speaking of his win, Joe Page says: “To even be considered amongst my extremely talented peers is a massive compliment. I'm so grateful to LUSH and AUB for the opportunity.
“In this unit we were given specific briefs by LUSH to help inspire us to design a toolkit for a specific purpose. My given brief was 'Post-Move', for the next steps after an intense workout or exercise. I decided to base my design around the origins of LUSH which was founded in Poole and I felt inspired to revolve it around Dorset's beautiful beaches and encourage people to see what it has to offer.”
