Fiery has a customer base that includes over 2 million digital front ends (DFEs) sold worldwide

Update 04/12/2024:

Epson officially completed the acquisition of Fiery on December 3rd with the company announcing its completion via a post on LinkedIn.

Speaking on LinkedIn, Fiery states: "With all necessary regulatory approvals completed, Fiery is now an official part of the Epson printing family.

"Several executives from Epson, including Epson chief executive officer Yasunori Ogawa, visited Fiery HQ in Fremont, California to meet our employees, see where we work, and speak about Epson’s spirit of innovation and vision for the print industry."

24/09/2024:

It has been announced that Fiery, a provider of digital front ends (DFEs) and workflow solutions for the print industry, has been acquired by Seiko Epson Corporation (Epson).

Epson will acquire Fiery from Siris Capital Group (Siris), in a transaction valued at approximately $591m (£443m). The purchase will combine Fiery’s software, server, and workflow solutions with Epson’s range of print devices and applications.

According to the company, joining Epson will mean that Fiery is “better positioned to scale, drive innovation, and continue delivering cutting-edge solutions to its customers while maintaining its independence in areas where the company excels.”

The transaction is expected to close within 2024, subject to customary closing conditions including required regulatory approvals. Once the transaction is complete, Fiery will become part of the Epson group but retain its current name and organisational structure and continue to operate from its existing offices.

Siris acquired Fiery as part of Siris’s wider acquisition of Electronics for Imaging (EFI) in 2019. Under Siris’ ownership, Fiery separated from EFI in 2021 to become an independent company.

The acquisition has come shortly after Epson has announced its latest printer for the signage printing market, the SC-S9100.

The new machine is designed for sign-makers and print service providers (PSPs), creating colour-accurate prints for a variety of large-format print applications.

Speaking of the acquisition, chief executive officer of Fiery, Toby Weiss, says: “Epson’s acquisition of Fiery showcases the uniquely important role we play in enabling success across the entire print industry.

“Fiery has a demonstrated track record of empowering original equipment manufacturer (OEM) partners to deliver the best possible results for its customers, and we look forward to building upon this legacy with Epson and our valued partners. I would also like to thank Frank Baker [co-founder and managing partner at Siris] and the entire Siris team for their invaluable guidance and expertise.”
