The document finishing company will be marking the milestone at this year’s drupa in Düsseldorf
Plockmatic Group, a manufacturer and supplier of document finishing systems, is marking “half-a-century of innovation and success” in the post-press market by looking back at its history and showcasing a range of products at drupa 2024.
The group comprises Plockmatic, Morgana, and Intec brands and has seen big success in the mail, folding, creasing, binding, and document finishing markets.
Jan Marstorp, chief executive officer of Plockmatic International, says: “It’s great to be celebrating 50 years in this vibrant industry and to be doing it in such a big way at drupa with all these fantastic new product launches.”
The company was formed in Sweden in 1974 and has continued to evolve and introduce a variety of different solutions for the industry.
Founder Terje Söderberg acquired a patent for a sorting machine and together with two partners began building prototypes in a laundry room. The business eventually expanded with larger premises in Essingen when it officially became Plockmatic.
The company’s renowned bookletmakers were first developed in 1985 and were capable of handling up to 20 sheets in both A4 and A3 formats.
In 2003, Plockmatic introduced its signature SquareFold Technology in the PL104 SquareFold unit. This development give a stitched booklet the look and feel of a bound document produced with squared spine, a new concept for its time.
Over the years Plockmatic has worked with the likes of Xerox and Ricoh and has expanded into Latvia with subcontractors in the Baltic region and Asia.
This month Plockmatic will move to a new 10,000sq m purpose-built factory in Riga to allow for further growth in production and sales. At the start of the year Accent Equity acquired 60% of the Plockmatic Group in order to grow and support its plans over the next few years.
Marstorp adds: “The move to our new purpose-built assembly factory in Riga increases our production capacity as we introduce new product lines and new bookletmaking and feeding solutions to a wider range of digital print engine manufacturers.”
With Salvatore Grimaldi, Marstorp has expanded the business through the acquisitions of UK suppliers Morgana Systems, Intec Printing Solutions, and Watkiss Automation as well as Italian perfect binder manufacturer KGS.
Plockmatic will be launching several new products at this year’s drupa exhibition in Düsseldorf including the new PowerSquare 7000 range of production booklet makers and the latest in the ubiquitous DigiFold range – the DigiFold Pro Ultra.
The stand will also include several new ColorCut digital die cutters from the Intec line-up including a larger format version of the SC6500 digital die-cutter, the SC7000Pro XL.
Drupa 2024 will take place from May 28th to June 7th in the Dusseldorf Exhibition Centre, Germany.
