HEIDELBERG has announced its latest growth strategy, highlighting the predicted market growth of industrial digital printing as a core focus

HEIDELBERG has announced a detailed mid-term growth strategy, ahead of its 175th anniversary in March.
The German printing solutions company began over a century and a half ago as a bell foundry in Frankenthal in the Palatinate region of Germany, before developing into a total solutions provider for print shops and packaging applications.
Ahead of the anniversary on March 11th, 2025, the company has released a growth strategy which aims to tackle future challenges.
In total, the company has predicted a growth potential of more than €300m (£250m) in sales for all strategic initiatives by the 2028/2029 financial year.
HEIDELBERG has highlighted the predicted market growth of industrial digital printing as part of its core focus in its new strategy. According to the company, the global digital printing market will grow from around €5bn (£4.2bn) today to €7.5bn (£6.3bn) by 2029.
HEIDELBERG has expanded its digital printing offerings in recent years, including its collaboration with Canon on the new Jetfire 50 B3 inkjet printing system. Interest in the Jetfire 50 has reportedly remained consistently high, with pre-orders for the machine already rolling in.

The growth strategy also highlights that the packaging market has seen significant growth in the last decade. According to the company, the end customer market for packaging has grown by more than 60% worldwide over the past ten years.
In cooperation with specialty chemicals producer Solenis, HEIDELBERG aims to respond to the global trend away from plastic and foil towards paper-based packaging. It aims to offer more solutions for printing recyclable packaging, particularly for the food industry.
According to HEIDELBERG, the company already generates more than 50% of its turnover in the packaging segment and hopes to increase this more going forward.
Key growth markets such as Asia and the USA have been highlighted as key focuses in the coming years. Reportedly more than 85 percent of HEIDELBERG’s business is already conducted outside Germany.
The company will aim to strengthen its sales growth and international presence further in the roughly 170 countries worldwide where it already has a presence.
Speaking in more detail about HEIDELBERG’s growth plans, Jürgen Otto, chief executive officer of HEIDELBERG, says: "To expand our market position, we are increasingly tapping into growth potential in our core business in packaging and digital printing as well as in the software and lifecycle business.
"We will also continue to expand our offering in the growing green technologies market. This includes key areas such as high-precision mechanical engineering, the automotive industry, charging infrastructure and software, and new hydrogen technologies."
HEIDELBERG also announced a week of celebrations to commemorate its anniversary year. In the summer of 2025, the company will host an anniversary ceremony at its new Home of Print headquarters, with customers, suppliers, and partners from all over the world invited.
An anniversary magazine will also be published, presenting the history of the company and the imagined future of the company.
