The technology will be used to support Cimpress’s VistaPrint business
Cimpress, a company that focuses on “mass customisation” through its various print businesses, has invested in a RICOH Pro VC8000 high speed inkjet press in order to support its e-commerce business, VistaPrint.
Ricoh says the new press will broaden VistaPrint’s applications as well as streamline production with enhanced automation.
The Pro VC80000 is designed to produce direct mail, colour books, catalogues, magazines, and a variety of other commercial print applications for media up to 300gsm.
The press is advertised as including AI technology, a particular highlight of many presses currently in the industry due to their ability to learn and analyse data for better automation and minimal faults.
Robert Keane, founder, chairman, and chief executive officer of Cimpress, says: “Customer service is central to everything we do, which is why we are collaborating with Ricoh, a company with a similar dedication to the customer experience. Working together, we have been able to identify a powerful production solution in the form of the Pro VC80000, which supports our responsiveness and efficiency, providing what our customers need when they need it.”
The latest investment is the latest investment with Ricoh having previously purchased the RICOH Pro C9500 to help with the group’s European operations.
Koji Miyao, president of Ricoh Graphic Communications and senior corporate officer, adds: “We are delighted that a company so experienced in high-speed inkjet is investing in Ricoh’s flagship high speed inkjet system.
“Our worldwide collaboration with Cimpress is based on the principle of co-innovation. Both parties collaborating for a mutually successful future. The dedicated global team approach that we provide to our global partners like Cimpress has been instrumental to the continuing success of this flourishing partnership.”
The deal was agreed at this year’s drupa exhibition in Düsseldorf, where Ricoh exhibited in Hall 8a with an impactful Japanese themed stand complete with vivid graphics and a Japanese style theatre in the centre of the booth.
