International Graphic Supplies (IGS), a UK-based press and pre-press equipment supplier, has announced the shipment of six fully refurbished Kodak Magnus 800 MCU Computer-to-Plate (CtP) systems to its strategic partner in China, Wisdom Printing Technology.

The six Kodak CtP devices were sourced by IGS from the UK market, acquired either from printers upgrading their existing CtP systems or secured through company liquidations.

The partnership between the companies is fuelled by Wisdom Printing Technology’s business model, which aims to eliminate upfront capital expenditure for printers.

In this model, Wisdom provides the IGS CtP equipment to its clients in exchange for a guaranteed three-year consumables contract. According to IGS, “this comprehensive agreement ensures maximum efficiency and profitability with predictable operating costs.”

Peter Flynn, managing director at IGS, says: “By meticulously refurbishing and redistributing this proven world-class CtP technology through a strong partner like Wisdom, we are extending equipment life, providing their Asian clients with a predictable, high-value solution that supports their long-term growth.”

While IGS is reportedly seeing significant traction with refurbished systems in international markets, the company also boasts a strong domestic demand.

A key part of IGS's UK business involves assisting UK printers in the transition from older pre-press technologies. According to IGS, many UK clients are still upgrading from less older violet and polyester CtP systems to modern thermal technology.

Flynn continues: "The upgrade path to thermal remains a priority for many of our UK clients.

“Thermal CtP delivers superior image stability, reduced environmental impact through chemical savings, and lower running costs compared to violet or older polyester plate systems. Even customers who adopted early manual thermal CtP are now upgrading to fully automated units to eliminate plate handling and boost throughput."

IGS also maintains a large inventory of spare parts from brands including Agfa, Fujifilm, Heidelberg, Kodak, and Screen, with the aim of ensuring maximum uptime and support for all systems.

IGS has also announced a number of kit sales in recent months, including the first UK purchase of an IGS Cobalt SP800 printer by online printer, Bluetree Group.

The Cobalt SP800 utilises HP’s FI1000 industrial printheads, removing the need for plates or engravings and enabling packaging companies to switch between designs for both one-off jobs and large-scale production runs.
