On October 8th, Konica Minolta UK welcomed a group of Year 8 students from local schools to its ‘Girls in Tech’ event, hosted at its Client Engagement Centre (CEC) in Houghton Regis in Bedfordshire.

The event, held in partnership with educational initiative TechGirls, was held on Ada Lovelace Day, an international celebration of the achievements of women in science, technology, engineering, and maths (STEM).

The event aimed to support students deciding on their GCSE options and encourage them to think about career paths in STEM sectors.

Utilising Konica Minolta’s printing technology, students were tasked with creating a poster that promotes women to pursue careers in STEM. Once designed, the posters were printed using Konica Minolta’s range of print devices.

Techgirls runs schemes including an international summer exchange program, which is designed to inspire young women from around the world to pursue careers in STEM. As part of its collaboration with Techgirls, Konica Minolta has delivered workshops to female students across the UK.

Gillian Nuttall, people and culture ESG partner at Konica Minolta, comments: “The tech industry continues to face challenges with female representation, and this event is one way we can address this by showcasing the vibrant and dynamic opportunities within the sector.”

As part of Konica Minolta’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, key targets have been set to address gender imbalance at the company. This includes reducing its gender pay gap to zero by 2030.

In the same time period, Konica Minolta has committed that 50% of new hires will be women, and that 50% of those in leadership positions will also be female.

Konica Minolta opened its new CEC in Houghton Regis near Luton in May. The CEC provides a central location for product sales demonstrations, training, and events centred around solutions from Konica Minolta and its partners.

The centre includes a fully operational professional printshop which includes Konica Minolta’s comprehensive range of AccurioPress toner presses, the AccurioLabel press range as well as its B2+ inkjet and partner technologies for print, packaging, and embellishment.

The facility also includes in-line trimming and finishing systems such as Konica Minolta’s TU-510 trimmer unit, and Plockmatic’s SD-450 booklet makers.
