The Saica Group has acquired the ‘enviro’ subsidiary of Spanish paper and corrugated board recovery business, FCC Ámbito, which employs more than 150 people

Paper solutions manufacturer, The Saica Group, has acquired the paper and corrugated board recovery business of FCC Ámbito, a subsidiary of FCC enviro, with the aim of expanding its recovery network in Spain.
The transaction was carried out by Saica Natur, the group's waste management and environmental services division, with the main activity of FCC enviro consisting of the recovery of paper and cardboard and other non-hazardous industrial and commercial waste.
Saica now takes over the activities carried out by FCC Ámbito at its plants in Madrid, Cáceres, Valladolid, Asturias, Vizcaya, León, and Toledo. These plants reportedly employ more than 150 people, with an estimated 2024 turnover of €33m (£28.5m).
Following this acquisition, Saica Natur now has 47 plants, 36 of which are in Spain and the rest in France, Portugal, the UK, and Poland. The total workforce of the business unit has now grown to over 1,700 employees.
The acquisition significantly expands Saica’s reach in Spain and neighbouring Portugal, with the addition of the territories of Madrid and the north and west of the Iberian peninsula.
Susana Alejandro, president and chief executive officer of the Saica Group, says: “This is a strategic step that consolidates our presence in Iberia.
“We are delighted to extend a warm welcome to everyone at FCC Ámbito, as well as to the new customers and partners joining the Saica Group. This operation allows us to add a highly qualified team with recognised prestige in the sector, strengthening our value proposition for customers in the Iberian Peninsula."
Íñigo Sanz, chief executive officer of FCC enviro, adds: “This transaction is very satisfactory and is part of our policy of asset rotation and optimisation to maximise shareholder value and focus on our development strategy.”
Saica Group has a significant and integrated presence across the United Kingdom and Ireland, operating all four of its business divisions in the region – Saica Paper, Saica Natur, Saica Pack, and Saica Flex – over more than 20 sites.
The UK division of Saica Natur reportedly collects and processes over 440,000 tonnes of cardboard and plastic annually.
Last year, Saica Group also invested over £16m in the UK facilities of its flexible and corrugated packaging divisions, with the aim of creating new jobs and boosting both capacity and growth.
