Commercial printer, Micropress, has purchased the latest HEIDELBERG Speedmaster XL 106-8P as part of its recent £5m investment programme.

This new installation will be a UK first, including the latest workflow automation systems revealed by HEIDLBERG at drupa 2024.

Joint managing directors of Micropress, James Cross and Robert Cross, were reportedly looking for a solution that would allow expansion into short run work in addition to the company’s existing longer runs.

The XL press will be installed with HEIDELBERG’s new Inspection Control system as well as its fully-automated plate logistics system, Plate to Unit.

The company has also fully upgraded its current workflow to HEIDELBERG’s new Prinect production manager workflow, with the aim of maximising the performance of its new Speedmaster XL in response to the needs of the production site and a desire to increase automation.

Micropress’ investment programme has included a factory extension and significant investment in new equipment. As well as the installation of the Speedmaster XL, Micropress replaced its older HEIDELBERG Versafire CP with the newest Versafire 115 LP, which included the latest HEIDELBERG digital front-end operating system.

Speaking about the installation, Robert Cross says: “We are thrilled to invest in what we believe is the most advanced and automated B1 sheetfed offset press in the world.

“This cutting-edge technology enables us to continue delivering high-quality work with fast turnaround times, all at market-leading prices. Staying responsive to the evolving needs of the marketplace is essential, and this press perfectly aligns with our commitment to innovation and continued investment.”

Phil Buttress, head of sales at HEIDELBERG, adds: “We are delighted that Micropress have chosen HEIDELBERG for this strategic investment.

“Drupa demonstrated the advancements in technology and Micropress identified the benefits these will bring to their business and we look forward to working with them to maximise the performance of the new XL.”
