Young People In Print (YPIP) is urging printers to open their doors to schools and colleges for International Print Day (October 23rd)

Young People In Print, an initiative dedicated to inspiring the next generation of employees in the print industry, is urging printers to open their doors to schools and colleges for International Print Day (October 23rd).
Marking its tenth anniversary this year, International Print Day is an annual celebration that brings together printing professionals globally.
Run by a group of volunteers, YPIP is aiming to offer a nationwide experience where printers and their supply chain companies, from OEMs to substrates, inks, adhesives, and software businesses, run open houses for local students.
The idea is to show the potential and opportunities within print to local young people so they can gain a better understanding of the industry, and one way that YPIP is striving to do this is through its local career hub.
Through the local career hub, YPIP works with local schools and colleges by arranging open houses and visits as well as providing agendas for the day and providing a PowerPoint deck if required.
Joanna Stephenson, managing director of PHD Marketing and YPIP volunteer, says: “A large number of printers across the country have already agreed to open their doors to students on October 23rd and we would love to see this spirit of collaboration and proactive promotion of our industry be replicated across the country.
“Whatever sector you’re in, this is a fantastic opportunity to highlight the print industry as a great option for a career. All companies need to do is offer refreshments, a talk and a tour, and showcase the passion and potential our industry offers.”
Having run individual open houses throughout the year already, YPIP has UCAS (University and Colleges Administrations Service) on board which will also be promoting the industry with a dedicated page on its website showcasing the apprenticeships available.
In addition, Ozzle is now hosting apprenticeships and a job board is being made available soon on the YPIP website.
To get involved and confirm participation, printers can visit the YPIP website and register their interest on the contact form.
