The new version of ColorGuard aims to eliminate manual colour checks and warmup jobs

Fiery, a developer of digital front ends (DFEs) and workflow software for the print industry, has announced the latest update of its Fiery ColorGuard colour verification solution.

The latest version of ColorGuard delivers ‘hands-free’ colour control through a set of touchless automation features, aiming to take the complexity out of colour control in digital printing.

The new version aims to eliminate the need for manual colour checks, warmup jobs, and repeated recalibrations, working with inline measurement instruments in presses to automatically verify, correct, and maintain colour output across all your print devices without operator intervention.

The technology pairs with Fiery’s other colour management tools, combining media calibration and profiling into a single step.

Other automation features include scheduled verification tools designed to automatically confirm colour accuracy, tracking quality trends over time.

Definable warmup pages are included, aiming to ensure colour stability from the first print to eliminate scrap jobs.

A universal verification tool is also included, automatically verifying and recalibrating media that share the same calibration to accelerate production readiness.

John Henze, vice president of sales and marketing at Fiery, says: “Fiery has led the print industry in colour innovation for over three decades.

“With this release of Fiery ColorGuard, we’ve taken another major leap forward by virtually eliminating operator intervention for colour control. Print businesses no longer need to keep a dedicated colour expert on staff, freeing employees to focus on productivity and customer satisfaction while staying confident that their colour output is always accurate.”

A number of major manufacturers have come out in support of the ColorGuard. Kiyoshi Oka, executive vice president and general manager of Canon USA’s Marketing Strategy Unit, says: “We are delighted with the latest implementation of Fiery ColorGuard with the inline spectrophotometer (ILS) in our Canon imagePRESS V family.

“We are especially delighted with how it takes full advantage of our automatic gradation adjustment capabilities, as part of this streamlined colour control workflow for our supported imagePRESS V family models.”

Mark Bohan, director of colour solutions at Konica Minolta Business Solutions USA, adds: “Konica Minolta's IQ-601 and IQ-501 inline colour measurement instruments, when paired with Fiery ColorGuard’s automatic colour control functionality, offer a highly automated solution for providers seeking a streamlined, hands-off approach to high-quality production.”

Fiery was purchased by print manufacturer, Epson, last year, in a transaction valued at approximately $591m (£443m) at time of purchase. The acquisition combines Fiery’s software, server, and workflow solutions with Epson’s range of print devices and applications.
