BOBST, a supplier of printing equipment and packaging solutions, has recently announced a series of solutions and partnerships at this year’s drupa in Düsseldorf.
Leading the charge was the DIGITAL MASTER 55, a new end-to-end digital printing and converting platform made for the folding carton industry. The machine is made for short-to-mid-size runs and is made to increase opportunities with short load times and high product quality.
The DIGITAL MASTER 55 combines printing, embellishment, quality control, and die-cutting incline at 100mpm (meters per minute) which enables just-in-time production.
BOBST says the solution minimises the need for large stocks and inventories and is ideal for runs of up to 6,000 B1 equivalent sheets.

In the packaging sector, BOBST announced it was looking to shake things up for connectivity and digitalisation by enabling a closed-loop workflow ecosystem from pdf to twin pdf in order to boost productivity, ease of use, and contribute to sustainability.
The packaging showcase included new features for BOBST Connect including equipment monitoring and detailed data insights. For labels the company presented BOBST’s Digital Front End (DFE) 3.0 for the first time to the public, stating it will be commercially available later in the year.
Other announcements included updates to ACCUCHECK, new Thalia ink and Thalia Foldable ink, as well as a seal of approval from Pantone for the BOBST MASTER RS 6003 gravure printing solution.
A new version of the company’s flagship flatbed die-cutter, the MASTERCUT 165 PER was also announced. The machine is able to handle corrugated board and folding cartons and features a new carbon gripper bar to enable an increased running speed of up to 7,500 sheets per hour.
Lastly was the reveal of BOBST’s continued partnerships with the announcement of its successful collaboration with Microsoft in order to reinforce its data and cloud-based software capabilities.
BOBST says that the increased popularity of AI means its cloud-based infrastructure now has the expertise and data security needed to provide state-of-the-art software solutions to its customers.

Jean-Pascal Bobst, chief executive officer of Bobst Group, says: “We are fulfilling our industry vision ‘to shape the future of the packaging world’ based on the pillars of connectivity, digitalisation, automation, and sustainability.
“Our solutions empower printers and converters to embrace digitalisation while advancing towards a more sustainable future. We are proud to engage with industry leaders, forge new partnerships, and chart a course towards continued innovation and progress."
