Ricoh UK has announced the expansion of its partnership with CPI Print, one of Europe’s largest book printing groups.

Following six previous Ricoh installations across CPI’s 16 production sites in Europe, including its Eastbourne print-on-demand (POD) facility, the group has recently added two more Ricoh Pro C9500 toner presses to its arsenal of print solutions.

The presses were added with the aim of enhancing flexibility and efficiency across CPI’s European operations to meet the evolving needs of publishers and the growing demand for shorter, more sustainable book runs. Further Ricoh kit purchases by CPI are also reportedly in the pipeline.

CPI’s purchase follows the successful trial of Ricoh’s Pro C9500 colour platform at its UK site in Eastbourne.

Martin Collyer, divisional general manager at CPI UK, says: “Our collaboration with Ricoh supports our strategy to localise more book production across Europe.

“The new Ricoh technology allows us to produce high-quality colour and mono books more efficiently and closer to our customers – helping us reduce waste, turnaround times, and our environmental footprint.”

Operating in a competitive, low-margin market, CPI has evolved its model with the aim of helping publishers optimise inventory and logistics. Its partnerships with global publishers now extend into warehouse-based production, utilising Ricoh’s automation, workflow integration, and predictive maintenance tools to allow print decisions to be made closer to demand.

Simon Wheeler, strategic account director at Ricoh UK, says: “CPI has been a key partner for Ricoh across Europe, pushing the boundaries of automation, workflow, and print-on-demand (POD) innovation. This next phase of their investment demonstrates the shared vision we have – delivering reliable, flexible, and sustainable book production solutions for publishers.”
