Fujifilm has told staff members that it has taken the decision to discontinue the Acuity Prime and Acuity Ultra product lines due to changes in the wide-format inkjet sector and the pressures of the graphics printing market.
In a statement directly to Print Monthly, Fujifilm says the decision to end the Acuity Prime and Acuity Ultra systems has been linked to the ‘maturing’ of the wide-format inkjet sector.
The company confirmed that it sees inkjet as a market growth area and so is not withdrawing from the category but instead concentrating on areas which can bring stronger profitability and growth.
The company says that all existing inventory will be reduced by Summer 2026 while inks, service and maintenance services, and the supply of consumables for existing machines will continue to be offered.
Fujifilm has also said that machines and inks for Acuity Aristo and Acuity will remain available, with the company confirming that it remains committed to supporting its existing customers, fulfilling its contractual obligations, and complying with all applicable laws and regulations.
In a communication to staff members, Fujifilm acknowledged that the printing industry has undergone “profound structural changes” which it attributes to the rapid advancements in technology, as well as the changing needs of customers.
Fujifilm has also linked the decision to the competitive pressure from Chinese manufacturers which has led Fujifilm to review its long-term value strategy.
In a statement to Print Monthly, Fujifilm says: “The Graphics printing market has been facing increasing profitability pressures in various segments and geographical regions. This situation has been driven by several factors, including rising material and operating costs, declining demand due to the shift towards digital communications, and continued economic slowdown particularly in Europe and North America.
“In response to these market changes, we have conducted a comprehensive review of our business portfolio. Based on market growth potential, profitability, and the uniqueness and competitive advantages of our products and technologies, we have decided to prioritise strategic growth areas while scaling back or exiting less profitable segments."
Fujifilm continues: “We continue to see inkjet as a market growth area, but we have made several strategic decisions within our inkjet systems portfolio following our business review. First, in the Commercial Printing segment, we will discontinue sales of Jet Press 750S and Jet Press 1160 systems in Europe and North America, a decision already announced earlier in the year.
“In addition, within the wide-format inkjet segment, where the market has matured and pricing pressures have increased, we have decided to discontinue sales of the Acuity Prime and Acuity Ultra systems. As a result of these changes, we will implement structural reforms primarily in Europe and North America. In addition, Fujifilm remains fully committed to supporting our existing customers and will continue to provide responsible material supply and service support for all installed systems.
“Despite these strategic decisions, our intention is not to withdraw from the inkjet systems category. Instead, we intend to concentrate on areas where we can achieve stronger profitability and sustainable growth.”
As acknowledged in its statement, the decision has come following a raft of announcements and changes at the company including the cessation of sales of the Jet Press 750S and Jet Press 1160 models following profitability issues. This choice was said to be “the first step in a strategic transformation of the Fujifilm Europe Graphic Communications business”.
The presses were produced in order to provide replicable results to offset printing, with the 1160 series made for industrial-scale production of books, direct mail, and transactional documents.
Discussing its future priorities in its statement, Fujfilm concludes: “Going forward, Fujifilm will continue to expand its digital printing business through its industry-leading toner and inkjet technologies, as well as software solutions incorporating AI technologies. Our strategic focus will be further strengthened in several key areas. Our toner Print-On-Demand and Office solutions are high priority growth areas in Europe and North America. We launched our revolutionary, industry-leading 5-colour SUPER COLOUR Revoria EC2100 & SC285 presses in 2025 and will make further announcements imminently.
“Within the inkjet segment, we will continue to expand and strengthen our inkjet printhead, and aqueous and UV ink businesses, leveraging these technologies to produce unique, innovative solutions that result in high added-value, superb quality, and operational excellence.
“The key products for market expansion in 2026 will include the Jet Press FP790, setting new standards in the flexible packaging market, and the Acuity Triton which offers unique competitive advantages based on our proprietary water-based UV AQUAFUZE ink technologies.”
Following these recent restructures, Mark Stephenson, long-time employee of Fujifilm, announced he was leaving the company at the end of January. Stephenson has since formed his own company in order to continue his work creating multimedia content and knowledge resources for the industry.
