Commercial printer, GD Print, has installed a Morgana EBA68 Guillotine with SpeedCut, making them the first in the UK to do so.

The kit purchase is part of a company-wide £250k investment programme by GD Print, focused primarily on futureproofing operations.

The online printing services specialist, which is based in New Milton on the South coast, invested in Plockmatic Group’s next-generation programmable guillotine to handle sheets from its new Konica Minolta AccurioPress C14010s, which supports long sheets up to 1300mm or 900mm in duplex.

GD Print also invested in a Konica Minolta AccurioPress 7090 ENHANCED, a recently released upgrade to the standard C7090 designed to deliver quicker turnaround times and greater media flexibility.

The company is already an existing Morgana Systems customer, having previously bought a Morgana PowerSquare 224 last year.

Speaking about the choice of the Konica Minolta press, managing director of GD Print, Craig Dobbs, says: “We wanted the production flexibility to print on longer sheets which is why we chose to upgrade from our Konica Minolta C14000 to the new Konica Minolta C14010.

“We liked the large LCD screen and the ability to store up to 50 programmes, which will help us set up regular jobs faster. This is especially important as jobs are getting smaller and smaller and turnaround times are shorter. We do a lot of order of next-day funeral services, and we can’t let anyone down.”

Dobbs also highlighted the ease-of-use of the Morgana cutter, which is designed to be operated with minimal training and offers simplified operator prompts via a touchscreen.

Dobbs adds: “Another consideration was that we don’t have three-phase electricity, and this is a system that will run on single-phase power. We also get great service from Morgana Systems, and we didn’t want to move away from that.”

Ed Hudson, general manager of Morgana Systems, says: “GD Print’s investment in our newly launched next-generation programmable guillotine is another example of how we work closely to help customers find the right solution for their business.

“We always strive to fully understand their requirements so that we can offer the best technical and most cost-effective system in every case, as well as provide comprehensive back-up service and support.”

Morgana is part of the wider Plockmatic Group brand, which also recently acquired ring wire binding manufacturer, Renz.

Plockmatic Group has hinted that Morgana will be consolidated under the single combined Plockmatic brand in the future, as was done with previously purchased brands including Watkiss Automation and KGS.

Plockmatic Group previously announced plans to move the majority of its UK assembly operation to a purpose-built manufacturing, assembly, and logistics plant in Latvia.
