The Pureprint Group has announced a major multi-site investment, with its sites in Uckfield and Newcastle both receiving significant upgrades.

A wide range of equipment has been added to both sites, including litho, wide-format, folding, binding, and finishing equipment.

The upgrade comes as Pureprint reported robust end of year results for 2023. According to the company, it achieved record revenue, solidifying its position across several key markets.

The company currently employs over 400 people, with an annual revenue of £70m.

At the Uckfield site, Pureprint has commissioned an eight-colour HEIDELBERG Speedmaster XL 106-8PL in its litho plant, replacing the previous four-colour model.

The machine was financed with the help of Close Brothers Asset Finance’s Print team which has worked with Pureprint for a number of years.

Speaking of the machine installation, Pureprint chief executive officer Mark Handford comments: “We are in the fortunate position where we’ve seen increased demand for our services, and the new press is going to make a real difference through higher production volumes, and I’m really looking forward to seeing it start delivering on its capability.”

Among the other machine installations, a Horizon Hard Case Binding Preparation System has been added, along with a BQ-500 perfect binder, and HT-1000V zero makeready variable trimmer.

These additions are designed to accelerate the production of case-bound books and strengthen Pureprint’s layflat capabilities.

At Imprint, the wide-format arm of Pureprint, a Durst P5 350 HSR D4 has been installed, with the goal of expanding Imprint’s roll-to-roll manufacturing capabilities. The P5 350 is a hybrid solution for roll and board printing up to 3.5m. The HSR version achieves a reported productivity of up to 708 sqm/h.

In other developments, it was recently announced that Patrick Headley, former chief executive officer of UK-based print and digital marketing services company Go Inspire, has joined Pureprint Group as a non-executive director. Go Inspire was bought by Xerox in 2023.
